Are you open to a little mystery? Try the I Ching

When you’ve got an important choice to make or if you’re feeling a bit lost about which way to go next, how do you work with it?

Making pro and con lists, talking to wise friends, and examining how an option aligns with your values are all good things when navigating a choice point. Depending on the kind of person you are, it can also be helpful to consider less rational sources of input. For some people that might be dreams, strange coincidences, psychic readings, long hikes in the woods, or psychedelics.

In addition to those, I quite like the I Ching. It’s been a source of guidance for people for thousands of years. It’s rooted in Taoism, which also underpins practices like Tai Chi, Qigong, and traditional Chinese medicine.

You don’t need to know much to get started. Rather than walk you through the process here, I’m going to share with you my favorite source for all things I Ching on the internet — a wonderful woman in the UK named Hilary Barrett who provides a free I Ching reading tool as well as worlds of supporting materials, classes, and a learning community on her website.
